Most practice apps ask you to trust a number: "10,000+ questions!" What they don't show you is where those questions come from, or what stops a broken one from reaching your child. This post is the opposite — the actual pipeline, the actual checks, and an honest roadmap of what's live, what's in beta, and what we're still building.
📌 The short version. Every PSLE Alex question starts from an expert-written seed, gets expanded into fresh practice variants, and then has to pass three automated gates plus a blind solve-test before it can go live. Today that's ~7,100 questions across Math, Science and English (Chinese is in beta), all aligned to the MOE 2026 syllabus. When a question is wrong, we re-author it in place — we never quietly delete it and hope.
Where the questions come from
There are two layers:
- Expert-authored seed questions — the foundation. Hand-written to the MOE syllabus, one per skill and difficulty. These are the "source of truth" and never get auto-edited.
- AI-expanded practice variants — so your child isn't redoing the same 200 questions, each seed is expanded into fresh variants that test the same skill a different way. A variant is generated from the pedagogy of the seed — the skill, the trap, the difficulty — not by copying the seed's wording.
Right now that's roughly 3,700 expert seeds + 3,350 practice variants ≈ 7,100 questions, feeding 60 full prelim-format mock papers. Your child practises the variants; the seeds stay frozen as the reference.
How every question is checked
A question doesn't go live because someone eyeballed it. It has to clear four independent checks:
- Structural gate — enforced at the database itself. Four options keyed (1)(2)(3)(4) (real PSLE format), the correct answer must be one of them, every diagram must be renderable. A malformed question is rejected on write — it can't even be saved.
- Similarity gate — a new variant that's too close to an existing one is blocked, so you don't get near-duplicates.
- Continuous audit — the whole bank is re-scanned automatically; any violation blocks a release.
- Blind student-solve test — a separate solver, given only what your child would see, has to actually answer the question. If agreement isn't essentially unanimous, or anything is ambiguous, the question goes back to be re-authored in place — never deleted-and-forgotten.
✅ The rule in one line. Structural checks prove the question is well-formed; the blind solve-test proves it's answerable. Both have to pass.
And when you report a bad question in the app, it enters that same loop — the fix is applied to the actual question, verified by the same solve-test, and shipped. Reported issues are how we find the ones the machines miss.
Kept current for PSLE 2026
The bank tracks the MOE 2026 syllabus, not last year's. A concrete example: Speed is no longer tested in PSLE 2026 Math, so we're pulling those questions out of the live bank rather than drilling your child on something that won't be examined. As the syllabus and exam formats settle (Oral 12–13 Aug, Listening 15 Sep, Written 24–30 Sep 2026), the content moves with them.

Frequently asked questions
Are the questions real PSLE past papers? No. Every question is original, written to the publicly available MOE syllabus. We don't use SEAB, MOE, or school exam papers.
Does AI write the questions my child sees? Questions start from expert-written seeds and are expanded into variants. Nothing goes live on AI output alone — every variant passes the structural gates and a blind solve-test first.
What happens when I report a wrong question? It goes into the same fix pipeline: re-authored in place, re-checked by the solve-test, and shipped. We don't delete-and-regenerate.
Why do you remove questions like Speed? Because PSLE 2026 doesn't test them. We'd rather have fewer, syllabus-correct questions than pad the count.
When is a specific feature coming? We keep the "what we're working on" list above honest and undated on purpose — we ship when it passes our own checks, not to a marketing calendar.
